AGE/NEPAL is a non-profit, non-governmental charitable organization fully committed to enhancing the quality of lives of children with neurological disabilities.
AGE/N consists of a group of highly enthusiastic, result-oriented and professionally trained young people yet with experiences of more than a decade in the field of rehabilitating children with neurological disabilities. It is supported by medical professionals, parents of such children, volunteers and social workers.
The very concept of AGE is a result of a study done by a team of AGE/N on children with neurological disabilities. In the Nepalese society, among the many types of disabilities, children with neurological disabilities tend to suffer the most. They are the most vulnerable and the most neglected. There is little exposure of these children to the outside environment and are mostly confined within the four walls of their homes. They are also deprived of their basic right to education, play, etc.
Since parents of the disabled cannot afford a paid caretaker, it is the mother who is the caretaker most of the time. Thus, the mother must devote much of her time and effort to tending to her disabled child. This often makes the life of the whole family very stressful.
AGE/N realizes that it is important for children with neurological disabilities to have the opportunity, therapy and education so that they are at least able to carry out their daily routine activities independently. This should give the caretaker great physical as well as psychological relief.
