The aim of SEP is to make a child less dependent (for e.g., in his daily activities such as eating, dressing, undressing, going to the bathroom, etc.) and help him lead a more varied and stimulating life, develop as an individual and increase his interaction with others. It provides the child with the opportunities to learn, practise and apply what he/she has learned in various contexts in everyday life.
Under SEP, children have been categorized into moderate to severe according to the degree of their disability. Children having similar cognitive and physical abilities are grouped together. Emphasis is given to the development of both cognitive as well as physical aspects according to their potential. A group of six trained physio, speech and occupational therapists and a special teacher provide them the required physical as well as cognitive inputs to stimulate active learning and help children become more independent.
